Benefits of the low rise function

Reduces risk of injury following a fall from bed:

The extremely low mattress platform, combined with the option of a mattress of only 8cm reduces the total fall height to less than 15cm. This height significantly reduces the impact of a fall, reducing it to a roll - avoiding the associated pain and costs of a damaging fall.

Reduces requirement for bed rails:

By making any potential fall height so low, the requirement for bed rails is greatly reduced. This is significant for those users who may be at risk with the use of bed rails.

Reduces requirement for bed rails:

Removes risks associated with bed rails

If bed rails are not used, risks such as entrapment, injury on impact and increase in the potential fall height can be significantly reduced.

Reduce user agitation:

Users may become distressed and agitated from being surrounded by side rails. They may attempt to climb over the rails and may also exhibit other behavioural issues.

Reduce user agitation:

Reduces requirement for crash mats:

Crash mats are often used to protect a user in the event of a fall from the bed, however these are not always adequate. Crash mats can be dispensed with as the fall height from the FloorBed™ is so low. Eliminating crash mats will remove potential trip hazards and related injury risks.

Independent transfers:

The adjustable bed height also enables any user to place their feet flat on the ground when sitting on the edge of the bed, reducing the risk of slipping as they are able to obtain a supported seated position. This is of particular benefit to petite less able users, and may enable them to carry out independent transfers, possibly eliminating the need for manual handling equipment and/or carer assistance.

Independent leg lift into bed:

Users with a restricted range of movement at the hips or in the lower limbs will benefit from lowering the bed to the floor, enabling them to lift their legs independently into bed. This could eliminate the need for additional equipment and/or carer assistance.

Benefits of profiling bed functions

Full Nursing height:

The FloorBed™ rises to a full nursing height enabling carers to complete care tasks safely.

Compatible with specialist mattress systems:

Accora have produced a low mattress with a height of 8cm to retain the benefits of the low floor bed, however the floor bed mattress platform is a standard size of 200cm x 90cm, making it compatible with most mattress systems

Compatible with specialist mattress systems:

No trailing wires:

Wires are securely fixed to the underneath of the bed to reduce the risk of damage and allow for the safe use of a mobile hoist.

Back rest/elevation:

Functional Benefits:

  • Enables greater independence and range of movement for the user
  • Assists with transfers
  • Raised position enables easier eye contact resulting in improved social interaction.
  • Back rest support enables better functional use of the arms and hands.  This may enable a user to feed themselves and carry out other tasks independently

Clinical Benefits

  • Reduces fluid build-up in lungs
  • Can facilitate improved respiratory function
  • Can facilitate digestion and swallowing

Knee break:

Functional Benefits:

  • This function assists users to retain their position as the knee break reduces the risk of slipping down in the bed. The user is more comfortable and carer time is reduced.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps reduce fluid and pressure in legs and ankles
  • Assists pressure distribution and stability when using tilt functions

Pressure area care:

Position shown can be adopted which improves blood flow and at the same time improves pressure care management. Using the Fowler-30° position with the knees raised reduces the risk of skin breakdown. This relieves pressure on the heels and joints by slightly lowering the head position and raising the calves.

Bed Extension:

The FloorBed™ can be extended by 20 cm. The extension kit, which consists of the frame extension piece and mattress extension piece, can be purchased separately.
