The extremely low mattress platform, combined with the option of a mattress of only 8cm reduces the total fall height to less than 15cm. This height significantly reduces the impact of a fall, reducing it to a roll - avoiding the associated pain and costs of a damaging fall.
By making any potential fall height so low, the requirement for bed rails is greatly reduced. This is significant for those users who may be at risk with the use of bed rails.
If bed rails are not used, risks such as entrapment, injury on impact and increase in the potential fall height can be significantly reduced.
Users may become distressed and agitated from being surrounded by side rails. They may attempt to climb over the rails and may also exhibit other behavioural issues.
Crash mats are often used to protect a user in the event of a fall from the bed, however these are not always adequate. Crash mats can be dispensed with as the fall height from the FloorBed™ is so low. Eliminating crash mats will remove potential trip hazards and related injury risks.
The adjustable bed height also enables any user to place their feet flat on the ground when sitting on the edge of the bed, reducing the risk of slipping as they are able to obtain a supported seated position. This is of particular benefit to petite less able users, and may enable them to carry out independent transfers, possibly eliminating the need for manual handling equipment and/or carer assistance.
Users with a restricted range of movement at the hips or in the lower limbs will benefit from lowering the bed to the floor, enabling them to lift their legs independently into bed. This could eliminate the need for additional equipment and/or carer assistance.
